Desolation

Hey, Team Louisville... the same guy who runs Unusual Kentucky has a separate photo blog for defunct storefronts in Louisville.

... Jeebus. Showcase Cinema apparently went under seven years ago. I never knew. You really can't go home again. Welcome to Friday, here's your cognitive dissonance...

Didn't realize Unusual Ky was still up and running (haven't visited it since it was on angelfire (or geocities or something similar). Thanks for the heads up.

Seeing Showcase's marquee blank a few years ago was ... was a moment for me. Some big summer memories tied up with that place.

After living in Taiwan for almost two years I went back to an Atlanta that had changed in predictable ways. Some like you describe, other new stuff had sprung up.

The weird thing was I came back and Sanxia, my little "first home" here in Taiwan, had finally finished construction on the new downtown during the spring while I was gone and was a different world. My street was unmaneuverable on scooterback due to people.

So I've been here almost another year since then. I don't know what to think. You're right, you can never go back -- anywhere.

Maybe LaoTzu said it best, "everything changes."
