I can almost see it. It's about levels of indoctrination and which political party has successfully co-opted the identity of "patriotic American" and for the last decade+, the Republicans have been very vicious about crowing their own patriotism while decrying Democrats as traitors and socialists.

My patriotism doesn't need to align itself with a major political party. And right now, it'd be ashamed to align with either one.
