So there was some cutting:

And then some attachment of connecting pieces, featuring exploration into the mysterious world of self-drilling bugle-headed screws:

And then some assembly through more screw abuse and judicious use of a rubber mallet:

And then putting it all sort of together to see how it'll look:

It's not done yet. We need to stain and seal the bench top and the shelves, which will take a while because we need outdoor humidity to drop to an acceptable level. Then we'll need to square up the frame, attach the flat bits, stand up and attach the pegboard, and secure the whole contraption to the studs (in a basement previously demonstrated to not have 90ยบ corners). But it's definitely progress.
