I spent some time yesterday thinking about how to do an IK-to-5e conversion of the warcaster, who is such a staple of the IK miniatures game.
The conclusion at which I arrived is that it's not really necessary under 5e. All the tools are already in place:
That's it, really. All of the other stuff about focus and controlling mechanika is an artifact of the wargame that doesn't have to be ported over into a tabletop RPG.
The conclusion at which I arrived is that it's not really necessary under 5e. All the tools are already in place:
- Start with a caster base class - wizard by preference, but I can see cleric, sorcerer, or even warlock all working out (warlock seems like a Cryxian thing).
- Take some option, whether a cleric domain or a multiclass dip, that provides martial weapon and medium armor proficiency. Heavy would be better but a breastplate is within the scope of the fluff and art.
- Take the War Caster feat.
